Food and beverage B2B online marketplace ShelfNow announces the launch of its organic warehouse as it continues to explore different ways to innovate the food and beverage industry and respond to its customers’ needs. In the last year alone it has seen an increase in sales of 176% of its organic products, demonstrating the growing demand for organic produce. The online marketplace also shares some of its unique insights and data regarding the growing popularity of organic produce.

A growing trend

Organic September in the UK is dedicated to raising awareness and encouraging the nation to discover all the ways shopping for organic foods can be positive for health and the environment. From organic farming to organic produce, and now organic warehouses, it is a trend ShelfNow is seeing go beyond merely being a healthy choice for individuals and is now changing the supply chain as a whole. ShelfNow stocks products across 24 categories from fresh food to health supplements and non-alcoholic drink options, and currently 29% of its partners develop organic produce. In addition to this, over the last 6 months, ShelfNow reveals an increase of 42% in organic produce orders as consumers are choosing the healthier and sustainable options available on shelves more and more.

Popular products

ShelfNow’s selection of healthy and eco-friendly foods continues to grow and currently includes WALLAROO, Erbology and Caffè Barbera. Stocking various organic options has meant that the marketplace has seen sales in this sector increase by 176% over the last twelve months. Not only are brands focusing on providing healthier options for consumers but there are also significant efforts being made to create more sustainable, environmentally driven options for retailers.

Predictions

When considering the future of ‘organic’ and what that translates into within the food and beverage industry, ShelfNow predicts what trends will continue to see growth. In particular, there has been a significant correlation between the growing popularity of plant-based and organic products. As producers continue to focus on making healthier food options, brands will continue to take into consideration sustainable options such as plant-based recipes. ShelfNow also predicts upcycling food will continue to grow in popularity. Currently, over 30% of food globally is lost or goes to waste and 8% of all human-caused CO2 emissions originate from food waste. By purchasing upcycled food-based products, there is an opportunity to reduce this figure. Another important aspect of organic food and drink is how it is farmed, stored and delivered. With the introduction of ShelfNow’s new organic warehouse offering, which is certified by the Soil Association, the marketplace is providing the future of organic produce with a fully certified organic supply chain. This is a development which is yet to become the industry standard.
