Mahindra Scorpio-N SUV deliveries to begin tomorrow

Mahindra is all set to start delivering the all-new Scorpio-N SUV from the 26th of September, 2022. The automaker is sitting on 1 lakh bookings for the SUV, and has essentially sold out production for at least one year. Online bookings for the new SUV opened on the 15th of August, 2022, and within 30 minutes Mahindra had to close the booking window as 1 lakh bookings for the SUV came through. Such has been India’s craze for the new Scorpio that bookings are already being sold on classifieds for massive premiums. As things stand today, the new Scorpio-N does not have any direct competition. There’s no other ladder frame equipped SUV at the price point at which the Scorpio-N is being sold at though there are monocoque bodied SUVs available at overlapping prices.

Mahindra will start taking fresh bookings in a few months from now but be prepared to wait for a year or more after booking the new Scorpio-N as demand is just sky high. The Scorpio-N is being produced from Mahindra’s state-of-the-art factory at Chakan. The new production facility for the Scorpio is quite an advanced facility, with plenty of robots and mechanization. The quality of production seems quite high and expect a high quality end product as well. Previously, the Scorpio was produced at the automaker’s Nashik facility. The new SUV is now built alongside the flagship XUV700.

The all-new Mahindra Scorpio-N is available with two engine options – a 2 liter turbocharged petrol (called mFalcon) and a 2.2 liter turbocharged diesel (called mHawk). Both engines get two gearbox options: a 6 speed manual and a 6 speed torque converter automatic. While the diesel powered variants of the Scorpio-N can be specified with a four wheel drive layout, the petrol variants are rear wheel driven.

The 2 liter turbo petrol motor makes 200 Bhp-370 Nm on the manual trims while the automatic trims get 200 Bhp-380 Nm outputs. The 2.2 liter mHawk diesel – a tried and tested engine in operation for decades – is available in 3 states of tune. The base diesel manual trim gets this engine in 130 Bhp-300 Nm state of tune while higher manual trims get the same motor in 172 Bhp-370 Nm state of tune. The top of the line diesel automatic trims get a 172 Bhp-400 Nm state of tune. These numbers make the Scorpio-N the most powerful Scorpio ever produced by Mahindra.

The SUV is available in a whopping 25 variants, covering a wide range of budgets and customer needs. Prices start from Rs. 11.99 lakh for the base diesel Z2 trim, going all the way up to Rs. 23.9 lakh for the top-end Z8 diesel automatic 4-wheel drive trim. Prices will soon see an upward revision as the current prices are valid only for the first 30,000 bookings. Clearly, Mahindra has a big winner in the new Scorpio-N, and it’s now up to the automaker to deliver the SUV on time as there are thousands if not lakhs of buyers ready to cut a cheque for the latest Mahindra in town.
