Mahindra XUV700 SUV bags 1.5 lakh bookings in just 10 months of launch
The XUV700 has been Mahindra’s biggest hit ever. The booking numbers are proof. Mahindra has received over 1.5 lakh bookings for the XUV700 in just 10 months of launch. The massive demand, and supply constraints due to global and local factors has meant that over 1 lakh customers have yet to receive their XUV700s, and that Mahindra has only delivered about 50,000 units. Waiting times for certain variants of the Mahindra XUV700 stretch to over a year. The inordinately long waiting time has meant that sparingly used Mahindra XUV700s are selling at the same price as new models.
Launched on 15th August of 2021 with an introductory price of Rs. 11.99 lakh, the XUV700 became an instant hit. Prices have been revised upwards over the past 10 months of launch by about Rs. 2.2 lakh. The Mahindra XUV700 is a monocoque SUV available in front wheel drive and all wheel drive variants. It’s a completely new vehicle developed ground up, and replaces the XUV500, which was Mahindra’s first monocoque SUV, and the XUV700’s predecessor.
The XUV700 is offered with 5 and 7 seat options, petrol and diesel engines, and automatic and manual gearboxes, making it very attractive to a wide set of car buyers. There are two key trim levels: MX and AX. While MX trim is meant for the 5 seat models, the AX trim is for the 7 seat variants. AX trim buyers can also opt for the Luxury trim, which adds more features.
The Mahindra XUV700 is sold with two engine options: a 2.0 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged petrol called mFalcon with 197 Bhp-380 Nm, and a 2.2 liter-34 cylinder turbocharged diesel called mHawk available in multiple states of tune: 155 Bhp-360 Nm, 182 Bhp-420 Nm (Manual) and 182 Bhp-450 Nm (Automatic). 6 speed manual and torque converter automatic gearboxes are offered with both engines. However, the all wheel drive layout is only available with the diesel engine while a front wheel drive layout is standard.
The feature-set is where the Mahindra XUV700 really seals the deal for most customers. It’s got a massive 10.25 inch touchscreen infotainment display that spans half the dashboard while the enormous panoramic sunroof is another party trick in a country that simply loves cars with sunroofs. Safety is very impressive with a 5 star Global NCAP rating, helped generously by the various active and passive safety features on offer.
The Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS) suite of the XUV700 brings features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Keep Assist and Autonomous Emergency Braking to mass market cars. 7 airbags, ESP, ABS, traction control, tyre pressure monitoring, 360 degree parking camera and a host of other safety features round off the impressive kit on offer. To sum it up, the XUV700 is a fully loaded SUV and India is loving it.
