One in three businesses axe sustainability from priority list as cost of living worsens, Gousto reveals – Retail Times

With the cost of living crisis predicted to continue for the foreseeable, research by B Corp recipe box Gousto has found that over three quarters (78%) of Brits are now worried about how the cost of living crisis is going to negatively impact the environment.

Gousto also found that a third (33%) of business owners say that sustainability is not currently a priority for them and just less than 1 in 5 (17%) are focused on maintaining their green credentials as inflation in the industry skyrockets.

However, 53% of consumers believe that sustainability should remain a high priority for businesses and 61% think businesses could still be doing more despite current pressures around inflation, cost of living and labour.

Keeping sustainability on the menu in line with their purpose to build a product with a positive impact, Gousto has launched a new Carbon-Cutting Cuisine range, offering home cooks recipes to reduce their carbon footprint at an industry best value price point.

The desire among consumers to make eco-conscious swaps is strong, with over half (51%) wanting to make more significant changes to their lifestyle in a bid to live more sustainably, with 47% feeling this at mealtimes particularly.

In a bid to be more sustainable in the home in recent years, Brits have already made conscious changes to their diet. Gousto found that 25% of Brits said they have cut down on meat in their diet, 13% have cut down on dairy and more than one in ten (12%) under 44s have switched to recipe boxes to reduce household food waste.

As a certified B Corp, Gousto is committed to helping cooks make mealtimes more planet-friendly with 23% lower carbon emissions than supermarket shops and a food-waste-fighting supply chain. The new Carbon-Cutting Cuisine range champions seasonal veg, smarter meat swaps and dairy alternatives so customers can monitor their footprint.
